About us


The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, which was started in the year 2009, offers a vivacious environment for graduate educations in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. It is one of the developed and well equipped departments in the institution. The vision of the department is to evolve into a centre of excellence to serve the emerging knowledge based society and the mission of the department is to sustain a quality oriented academic environment to mould technically competent and socially committed Electrical Engineers.

The department is committed to the advancement of the frontiers of knowledge in Electrical Engineering and to provide the students with a stimulating and rewarding learning experience. The department is dedicated to impart quality and value based education to increase satisfaction level of all stake holders.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES (POs)


At the end of their course, Electrical Engineering Graduates will have achieved the following values and capabilities :

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  6. The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams,and in multidisciplinary settings.
  10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  11. Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
  12. Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOME (PSO)

  1. Students will design, evaluate and analyse electrical systems through modeling and simulation and to implement the same.
  2. Students will design and implement an optimised and reliable power system with appropriate instrumentation and control.
  3. Students will design, implement and analyse analog and digital electronic circuits and systems for varying customer needs.
  4. Students will design, estimate and implement electrical installations conforming to prevailing standards.

Graduates will be:

  1. Able to meet the requirements of Academia and industry through their acquired technical knowledge and skills.

Electrical Minds Forum - The Association of the Electrical Engineering Fraternity of Model Engineering College.


Electrical Minds Forum (EMF) is the society of the students of the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. It aims to act as a bridge between the students and the strides made in the industry. EMF, the Electrical Association of Model Engineering College is the joint venture of the staff and students of Electrical and Electronics Department.

Electrical Minds Forum (EMF) of Govt. Model Engineering College is a noble attempt to create a platform on which one can discuss ideas, practice and articulate a shared vision for progress in the areas of interest. EMF will aid thought provoking interactions and motivate the students to excel. EMF will help in achieving career goals, technological innovation and continuous improvement. Our primary objective is to develop a passion in students for electrical and electronics engineering and help them achieve their goals. As an organization at the campus level, we aspire to create a platform for students to showcase their ideas and skills, assist them in their work and keep them abreast on all the developments in the field. In addition to enhancing the technical background of students, we also give due importance in developing their organizational and management skills. Our goal is to mould a smarter generation of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

EMF brings together eminent personalities from organizations of high repute such as Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and enables students to engage in interactions with them.EMF has initiated in conducting workshops, interactive seminar sessions,PCB design workshops, lectures consistently every year in MEC.

EMF also takes initiative in organising Industrial Visits for students of electrical and electronics department, in which the latest visit to Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant has raised the morale of the club among the students.

"Lego Ingenum" or "Empower Talent”, an event based on Electricity Conservation was held by the inaugural EMF members in association with The KSEB Engineers Association. Various competitions were held to spread the necessity of Energy Conservation which attracted number of student participants from all over Kerala.
